Light House is a well reputed non-profit voluntary development organization working for the development of rural and urban asset less poor, marginalized and high risk population particularly the landless, homeless, sex worker, drug users both injecting and heroin smokers, men who have sex with men (MSM) and Hijra with transgender, distressed, school dropouts, child labor, Adibashi and other disadvantaged adults and children in Bangladesh.
It is a leading Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Bangladesh that was founded in 1988 following devastating and gigantic Flood. Feeling concern, a group of young and energetic men joined together to work for the flood victims. One of those members, Md Harun-or-Rashid is now the Chief Executive of Light House. Gradually it becomes able to achieve people’s trusteeship, transparency within the working areas keeping up better relationship with civil society, district and upazilla level administration and local government. At present, Light House is working in 23 districts of 5 divisions of Bangladesh.

Light House has initiated a multi-dimensional project in Hard-to-Reach Areas of Rural Bangladesh with the financial support of well-known donors. The project is targeted to accelerate the achievement of the MDGs including SDGs as well as national target with respect to the access to public health, community legal service, improve justice, increase food security & awareness build up about the natural disaster & adaptation-mitigation etc. The aims of the overall projects are to promote decentralized and sustainable facilities through increasing the capacity of the hard-to-reach marginalized community and creating their access to basic health services, public health (HIV/AIDS prevention) awareness, to ensure community legal service and improve justice (Human rights & Good Governance) services, to increase food security for poverty reduction, to concern about the disaster risk & reduction for the excluded or deprived people in the vulnerable area.
At present, Light House is working in 23 districts of 5 divisions of Bangladesh. Light House’s strategic areas of works includes (i) Health, Nutrition & Population Sector (ii) Governance, Human Rights and Justice Sector (iii) Poverty reduction and Sustainable Livelihood (iv) Environment and Climate Change.

Mission
The Mission of Light House is to serve the socially and economically less privileged and vulnerable people in Bangladesh, through comprehensive programs addressing health, justice, governance, climate resilience, gender equality, technological empowerment, and civic engagement.
Broad objectives: Light House is committed to strengthening governance systems, including improving access to justice for marginalized populations. The organization also pursues the need to improve and develop its services to empower our target groups who are vulnerable due to climate change. We are also committed to working towards Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH), as well as addressing Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases in Bangladesh.
